Terna runs Innovation Zones in Silicon Valley, Turin, Ascoli Piceno and Tunis, acting as a venture client and becoming one of the first industrial customers of startup solutions, alongside corporate venture capital investment in technologies of strategic interest. In 2025 Terna joined seven other European transmission operators, including Swissgrid, Elia, TenneT, RTE, Red Eléctrica and Amprion, in the TSO Innovation Alliance, a joint venture-client program covering all eight grids with shared prioritization and proofs of concept.
Eoliann uses satellite data and machine learning to forecast extreme weather that threatens the grid, and Terna invested through its corporate venture capital arm to accelerate the technology.
These are selected publicly described collaborations, not a complete procurement record or a measure of spending.
